ILLUSION
My interpretation of 'The Light of Coincidence' was the artist's expression of affection towards his wife, depicted in Georgette's natural body. The painting showcased realistic expressions, including belly fat and wrinkles, celebrating the beauty of what is often deemed 'ordinary.' I appreciated how the artist sexualized this portrayal, challenging societal norms.
Inspired by Magritte's approach, I aimed to dissolve the conventional standards of beauty prevalent in our society. Drawing from Magritte's renowned piece, 'This is Not a Pipe,' I sought to persuade viewers that our perception of beauty, as portrayed in modern media, is merely an illusion. Using the main elements of the artwork—candles, shadows, and the silhouette
of a woman's body—I reinterpreted the piece through my own lens.
